The Bosaki of Bosak (Far Frontiers 1434) are a technologically advanced Minor Non-Human Race with a Non-humanoid appearance.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

A fastidious and private species, the Bosaki discourage outsiders from interacting with them in anything but a commercial setting, though a small subset have set out to travel the stars. They are mostly known for their successful sector-wide mercantile conglomerate, Qwuim Bosak, which has offices on most major worlds across the sector.

Physiology[edit]

Bosaki are omnivore gatherers with an insectoid appearance. Bosaki Sophont Species.jpg

Respiration[edit]

Respiration occurs through holes surrounding the base of the mouth and through pores covering the surface of the torso. On worlds with Dense or Tainted atmospheres, Bosaki don a specialised filter mask and body suit to function. Arms and legs can be free, since the limbs do not feature breathing pores.

Senses[edit]

  • Five lidless eyes provide 180 degree vision from the blue to the infrared on the EM spectrum. The four outer eyes focus on distant and stereoscopic vision while the central eye has impressive short range acuity, able to discern details down to microscopic scale (10 times better than Human vision).
  • The movable antennae provide a sense of touch to objects above and behind a Bosaki's field of vision. These antennae also provide sensory input for hearing, which is limited compared to that of Humans.
  • A Bosaki's tentacular fingers are tapered cylinders of muscle with dense nerve endings, allowing for a highly developed sense of touch and very fine motor control.
  • Chemical sensitivity in the fingers compensates somewhat for the lack of smell or taste.

Life Cycle[edit]

Bosaki are assumed to be hermaphroditic, though outsiders are not given insight into their intimate affairs. The development and birthing process of the species is shrouded in mystery, although most observers believe a short gestation period produces a single live birth. Young Bosaki are identical in form to adults and grow to maturity within 16 standard years.

A Bosaki's colouration changes from lavender to tan over the course of their life, which appears to range from 80-140 standard years. While medical interventions for injury are extremely effective and illness appears to be extremely rare, ageing and a sudden death seem expected and fully accepted; the Bosaki do not use anagathics to extend life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Among their trade partners is the Haladon Cooperative.

The Bosaki control the Qwuim Bosak corporation.

Language[edit]

Bosaki speech consists of varying-pitch whistles and staccato belch-like clicks but their primary mode of expression is visual, with rapid hand and finger motions. These are supplemented by the whistles and clicks. Bosaki communicating with other species can emulate speech with a mask fitted with an artificial tongue and other mouth parts, or can use a translation device worn around their necks.

Astrography[edit]

  • Far Frontiers Sector
  • Several worlds across the sector with major highports support a Bosaki enclave of the Bosak Starport Authority, providing speciality parts, maintenance and construction for BSA-built ships.
