Riies is a high-population, pre-rich world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- It lacks adequate resources to expand its economy to a rich status.
- Its economy and population are rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to quickly rise barring outside forces.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Nullia Subsector of Hinterworlds Sector.
Description / Astrography & Planetology[edit]
Riies gives its name to the Riies Cluster of which it is part.
- The system lies along the trade route known as Beyerly's Path.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld (a moon of Commonwealth)
- x7 secondary rocky worlds (Leeds, Sirlawrensa, Mad Dog, New Hyde, Botany Bay -- orbiting the primary; Forge and an apparently destroyed world -- orbiting Rebel)
- x2 planetoid belts (Revere, Dawes); both orbiting Rebel
- x3 gas giants (Commonwealth, Colonia, Regalia)
The strategic importance of this system is intensified by the fact that the mainworld is only one of six habitable moons orbiting the large gas giant, Commonwealth. The other worlds are Caledon, Northumbria, Cornwall, Mercia, and Essex. Three of these have an Agricultural trade classification.
Essex is a secondary population centre in the system, a regressed Long Night colony.
Essex was contacted by Riies' TL-7 vessels in 712. After several years of assessment, Riies' nations agreed upon the infamous Quarantine Accord of 721, in which they vowed to prevent Essex from receiving any outside contact, thereby usurping the planet's right to self-determination. However, enterprising merchants were often able to slip past the Riiesan patrols and make contact with the people of Essex.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]
The Riies Cluster is key to controlling almost all of the commercial exchange that the Hinterworlds have with the Solomani Confederation -- which is considerable. Riies, at the centre of Hinterworlds politics for some time, has a long-standing trading relationship with Tiffany. It has also been a staunch, if largely ineffectual, supporter of Angerhelm during the countless embargoes and trade restrictions Nullia has imposed on that planet.
The Riies system as a whole has a population of 9 billion.
World Starport[edit]
Riies has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
- One nation's spaceport was upgraded into a C-class Starport following an international competition.
World Technology Level[edit]
Riies possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government[edit]
Riies has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
- Countries on Riies include Alfredia, whose spaceport was passed over during the international competition for Starport status, and which holds a grudge against other nations.
