Marsus is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Bunkeria Subsector of Core Sector in the Domain of Sylea.
- This world has an Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
- It also has an Imperial Scout base, capable of handling IISS starships and personnel.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This world is located on the Sylean Main.
Stellar Data[edit]
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Prior to the Third Imperium, this world was a member of the Interstellar Confederacy.
One of the more powerful planets of the Confederacy, Marsus was known for its main planetary export: mercenary soldiers. Controlled by the government corporation Marsian Mercenaries, Unlimited, Marsus supplied troops to the highest bidder for any purpose. Operations were very profitable until the Marsian government chose to fight on the wrong side in the Confederacy Civil War.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Marsus has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- There is an associated Imperial Naval Base, hosting elements of the 217th Fleet.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are among the most commonly used here:
- Core Anglic: One of the principal dialects of one of the two official languages of the Third Imperium.
- Vilani: One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium.
Historical Data[edit]
Internal dissension within the Interstellar Confederacy finally resulted in the outbreak of hostilities late in -239 when combined forces from Protalus (Core 0128), Marsus, Ikarus (Core 0325), Oorpic (Core 0324), and Domitar (Core 0224) attacked the Confederacy Capitol of Sketola (Core 0622).
The rebel forces, commanded by the fanatical Baron Rolf von Toerbach, swept aside the system's defenses, subdued the orbital starport complex, and landed three crack divisions of Marsian troops on the world's surface. Within two months, the entire surface of Sketola was in rebel hands.
The Confederacy government withdrew to Keplo (Core 1322) and rallied their forces. The Confederacy was essentially cut in half, with the rebels controlling most of the Great Spiral systems in the Bunkeria Subsector, while the loyalists controlled those in the Cemplas Subsector.
World Timeline[edit]
Significant events affecting this world and its surrounding region include the following:
- -684: A politician from Sketola, Rom Debeshuut, unites the worlds of the Great Spiral into the Interstellar Confederacy. The primary goal is to restore interstellar trade and preserve the technology of the four or five systems that have achieved TL-12.
- -623: After expanding to 32 star systems, the Interstellar Confederacy abruptly stops accepting new members, believing that doing so will have a deleterious effect on their ability to retain the Tech Levels they have built to.
- -301: The Interstellar Confederacy first encounters scouts from the Sylean Federation.
- -260: The Interstellar Confederacy and the Sylean Federation go to war.
- -239: The Interstellar Confederacy suffers a civil war, as combined forces from multiple worlds attack the Capitol at Sketola. The Confederacy government withdraws to Keplo (Core 1322).
- -237: Loyalists retake Sketola.
- -201: After intense battles, Velpare and Heraldia fall to the expanding Sylean Federation.
- -1: The exhausted forces of the remaining Confederacy worlds surrender to the Sylean Federation.
