Ascension has both a tainted, very thin atmosphere and no surface water which makes habitation by sophonts difficult. The system has a population in the millions, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. This world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it dangerous to visitors. This is a high technology world with available technology over the standards for Charted Space. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Bolivar Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Ascension, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships. During the Long Night this world was named Islin.

History and Background[edit]

Lying at the center of the Ilelish Rimworlds, Ascension has become the hub of the communications network linking Dagudashaag with Zarushagar Sector.

Ascension is just a small ball of rock despite being the system's mainworld. It has little in the way of natural resources to offer. It is poor in most valuable minerals and there are no gas giants.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Ascension has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Point of Interest: Ascension Naval Base[edit]

In 172 the Imperial Navy decided to established one of its largest bases in the region, to protect its spinward borders. The security of the naval station attracted many merchants looking for a safe and stable frontier base of operations during the early years of the Imperium. The naval base was expanded at the time of the Ilelish Revolt (418-435), in line with the other naval facilities in the region.

The naval base hosts elements of the 83rd Fleet.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The following languages are among the most commonly used within this astrographic region:

  • Core Anglic: One of the principal dialects of one of the two official languages of the Third Imperium.
  • Sall: The predominate language of Bolivar (Dagudashaag 0240), also spoken as a common second language in surrounding subsectors.
  • Vilani: One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium.
