Lamas is a fluid world with an oceanic geography of a liquid other than water such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquids. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Lamas Subsector of Deneb Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Lamas, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.

Era: New Era
Lamas is a fluid world with an oceanic geography of a liquid other than water such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquids. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. This system serves as the capital for the subsector. It is a member of Regency of Deneb in the Lamas Subsector of Deneb Sector. This world has a nearby Regency Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
Description (Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Lamas is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Lamas has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks. Additionally, protective suits, while not necessary, are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Lamas has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Topography and Geography[edit]
Lamas is a young world of less than a billion years. Volcanism has deposited large amounts of useful industrial metals on the ocean floor, and this attracted colonists in the 760s. Oxygen can be more easily obtained from seawater, and most of the population lives in submerged cities built on tectonically stable ground.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Life has not progressed beyond primitive unicellular anaerobes that dwell around volcanic hotspots on the world-ocean floor.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Lamas has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The downport is a collection of raised platforms and floating docks built in a shallow part of the equatorial region. Most of the population is engaged in various mining and industrial jobs; most locals see the subsector government as a distraction, and wish that it were relocated to another world entirely.
World Population (P)[edit]
Lamas has a population of 700,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
World Government (G)[edit]
Lamas is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
World Law Level (L)[edit]
Lamas has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Lamas possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-3.
World Economy[edit]
Tukera Lines operates offices and maintenance facilities on Lamas.
Lurent planetoid ships may be found, trading, in the inner system or in the system’s Oort clouds, refuelling.
New Era[edit]
The Lamas naval base has a tech level 16 shipyard, known as Plant 97, that constructs small warships and gunboats for the Navy and RQS. These include the Barekdoldin Patrol Cruiser and a number of other designs supposedly built only by the Darrians.
