The Serpent Rift is an astrographic feature principally lying within the central-coreward part of Chiep Zhez Sector.

  • It is a rift area of low stellar density.
  • It is a barrier to expansion and interstellar commerce.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

(Image sourced from Traveller Map)

The Serpent Rift is an area of lower stellar density. Its name is derived from its supposed resemblance to a snake or serpent.

It is considered to be part of the Outer Voids, a distant region of the Idella Rift.

A basic map showing the Serpent Rift, right:

Individual regions of the Rift are named:

The highest tech level commonly encountered out this Far Along (spinward of the Third Imperium) is TL–12, though a few worlds may be more advanced.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Serpent Rift is a major obstacle to trade and commerce, which largely depends on Jump-2 vessels.

  • The Rift cannot be routinely crossed by most types of vessels.
  • It has served as a natural barrier to expansion to coreward.

Historical Data[edit]

The Void was originally charted during the 300s.

World Listing[edit]

Comprehensive Second Survey data for systems and worlds associated with this astrographic feature is available.

  • The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
  • Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
  • Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
  • Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.

AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:

No world articles for Serpent Rift

Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, may already be out of date.

  • Verified updated data is constantly sought.
