Dusty Death is a pre-agricultural, pre-Industrial world with a moderate population of over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts.
- It requires significant imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to slowly improve barring outside forces.
- It was a member of the former Shukikikar League, now Non-Aligned, in the Marla Subsector of Glimmerdrift Reaches Sector.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below standard for Charted Space.
Description / Astrography & Planetology[edit]
This system is located on the Shashka Main, AKA the Shumi Kiri Cluster.
Stellar Data[edit]
System Data[edit]

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]
The mainworld received its name because the atmosphere is tainted by fine airborne dust thrown up by the planet's vigorous volcanic activity. The low gravity means that even though the atmosphere is thin, particles travel over very great distances and fall to cover everything.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
The planet's volcanic fertility has spawned a great variety of wildlife, of which some species are powerful, hostile to humans, and numerous. Clearing settled lands of dangerous animals is a full-time job. Hunters sometimes come to Dusty Death to bag a big predator such as the marsh-dwelling Vornak, which resembles a cross between a bear and a crocodile.
History & Background / Dossier[edit]

World Starport[edit]
Dusty Death actually has more than one starport. In fact, it has dozens, situated at the various capitals and strongholds of the rulers. Keeping track of which of these many ports are safe and/or a good market for any given type of goods, and which are a good place to get your throat cut, is a tricky job. Some of the rulers do have standing arrangements with certain kinds of merchant ship operators.
World Technology Level[edit]
Dusty Death possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion, and the most fundamental atomic energy.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ground cars or automobiles and tracked vehicles.
- Water: Large ships and submersibles with steel hulls.
- Air: Early aircraft including seaplanes and very early unmanned rockets.
World Government[edit]
Dusty Death is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
- The elite class is drawn from the world's foremost warriors, merchants, and occasionally scholars. These powerful individuals rule towns or small provinces, and loosely co-operate when necessary.
- The shifting web of alliances and temporary advantages make politics on Dusty Death rather volatile, and offworlders are sometimes drawn into the conflict as pawns or players.
