The commissioned flag officer rank in the Imperial Marines of Brigadier-General (O8) normally carries with it the appointment and duties of Subsector Marshal, whose responsibilities include command of all the Marines in the Numbered Fleet for a Subsector as a Sector Vice-Marshal or at a higher level of importance in the staff of the Sector Admiral for the Sector Fleet as Sector Marshal. An Imperial Marine Brigadier-General may also be appointed to duties of similar importance in the staff of the Marshal-Commandant of the Corps on Capital.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The commissioned flag officer rank in the Imperial Marines of Brigadier-General (O8) normally carries with it the appointment and duties of Subsector Marshal, whose responsibilities include command of all the Marines in the Numbered Fleet for a Subsector as a Sector Vice-Marshal or at a higher level of importance in the staff of the Sector Admiral for the Sector Fleet as Sector Marshal. An Imperial Marine Brigadier-General may also be appointed to duties of similar importance in the staff of the Marshal-Commandant of the Corps on Capital.

The role of a Marine Brigadier-General as Subsector Marshal is political and administrative and is thus of greater status than it may appear given it's equivalent Imperial Army rank. The appointment to this rank attracts the title of Baronet [1].

The substantive rank of Marshal has appeared and disappeared several times over the centuries. A Marshal oversees a group of four or more subsectors (a Quadrant). Marshals are found only in areas where the threat of war is high, carrying with it the corresponding need to quickly move regiments to cover hot spots. As of 1105, there are no marshals serving in the Imperial Marines.[2]

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The word "brigadier" derives from the same root as the word "brigade" but the precise origin of "brigade" is obscure. However, the title is meaning The general officer who commands a brigade.
