Description (Specifications)[edit]
The rank of Second Lieutenant (O1) is the commissioned officer rank in the Imperial Marines that is held by officers that are being given on-the-job training in the practicalities of the role of Officer.

- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army (Ground Force Command) is Second Lieutenant
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army (NFC) is Ensign
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army (COACC) is Pilot Officer
Second Lieutenant may also be known as:
- Force Ensign: because of the historic role of carrying the unit's flag (and defending it to the death)
- Shavetail: {Generally disparaging} because of the historic habit of shaving the tails of newly broken-in pack animals called Mules.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The term Lieutenant is indicative of this rank being derived from the role of being the deputy commander of a Company under a Captain.
A Second Lieutenant is aspirant to that exalted position, and is considered to still be under on-the-job training.
