Forums: Index > Watercooler > T5 Starship Mission Codes

This is the list of the ship mission codes from the T5.10 book (book 2, p. 68), but organized differently. The purpose of this is to take another attempt to reconcile the wiki Ship Classification (and Starship-Nav-Bar-Two-2019CE) with the T5.10 mission codes. This is a request to make sure the T5.10 codes are propagated forward.

The T5 mission taxonomy is included where it clarifies the mission code.

Wiki-2 Amendment Discussion Starters

I see that a lot of work went into the Wiki-2 column, so I want to start talking over the decisions made there. In particular, I want to see how many of these are intractable, and how Wiki-2 sifted through the ship types that "fall through the cracks". Rje (talk) 17:36, 17 March 2022 (EDT)

A

  • A-class Merchant Vessels (Tramps - Cargo & Low-volume Passengers)

Change to "Type A - Traders".

  • Military Auxiliaries now go to Q-class
  • Traders or Tramps remain
  • All manner of traders: Free, Deep, Far, etc.

Remove all three of these. Auxiliaries have their own codes, and modifier codes take care of free, far, etc.

B

Add in a new entry:

"Type B - Defense Boat"

(This is T5's way to accommodate SDBs)

Reword "Battle" as a modifier, not primary code.

Remove these two. Monitors have their own code. Dreadnoughts need a special mention.

C

Change to "Type C - Cruisers"

  • Corvettes go to E-class

Keep this.

  • No need to change. Weight tonnage cruisers remain
  • Small (speed) Cruisers go to E-class

Remove both of these. Cruisers are Cruisers, even ACS.

D

Change to "Type D - Defenders"

  • Anything not a destroyer goes to E-class
  • Defenders and SDBs go to H-class

Remove both of these. Defenders have a code.

E

Change to "Type E - Escorts"

  • Includes all manner of tiny vessels
  • Brigs, Corvettes, FACs, Sloops, etc.
  • Patrol ships here if military and Imperial Navy. Otherwise to H-class.

Remove these.

F

Change to "Type F - Freighter"

  • Only fighters now
  • Fighters = Dedicated combatant smallcraft (...mostly)
  • Fighters bigger than 100 tons go to E-class or elsewhere
  • Non-combat-dedicated utility smallcraft go to U-class
  • Frigates go to E-class
  • Freighters go to A, M, R, or T-class

None of this applies.

G

Change to "Type G - Frigate"

  • Frigates and Corvettes go to E-class
  • Refinery
  • Ag / Farming
  • Factory Ships
  • Refinery ships
  • Largecraft tug

All should go away. We need discussions on Factories, Refineries, Farming (??)

H

Change to "Type H - Ortillery"

All of these except Hunters have mission codes. Need a discussion on MT Hunters.

J

Rename "Type J Prospector Vessel"

  • Prospectors and seekers remain
  • Intruders go to I-class

Don't need either of these. Intruder is available as a modifier in T5.

K

Changes to "Type K - Safari Ship/Expedition Ship

All these go away. Exploration vessels, including Beagles, have several different codes. Couriers are "S".

M

This is a swap error in High Guard. Revert to CT/T5 "Type M - Liner"

N

Change to "Type N - Medical Ship"

  • Ferries go to Q-class or U-class

Ferries deserve a discussion. I would assume they fall under T - Transport.

P

Change to "Type P - Corsair Vessel, Marauder, Privateer, Picket, Patrol

  • Planetoids get spread around by their role and function (P is a secondary modifier)
  • Q-ships become PQ

Keep these.

  • Fighters all go to F-class
  • Raiders become PR
  • Marauders
  • Privateers

Remove these. Fighters need a discussion. Raiders have a code. The rest are Type P's.

Q

Change to "Small Craft"

  • Hospital remain at N-class

Keep this.

  • Military Speciality
  • All manner of military auxiliaries
  • Q-ships go to P-class

These aren't true. Q is used in T5 for designating small craft.

R

Change to "Type R - Merchant"

  • R now a dedicated merchant code
  • Raiders go to PR
  • Battle riders now classified by role or size (...becomes a secondary modifier)

Raiders have their own code. Battle Riders use the "R" modifier code.

S

Change to "Type S - Scout Vessel, Courier, Messenger, Sentinel"

  • Sieges go to O-class
  • Includes all sorts of other Scout vessels, but not explorers, which go to K-class expeditions

Remove these.

Sieges have three codes of their own to choose from.

T

Change to "Type T - Transport, Tender, Tug, Assault"

  • T-class are now dedicated transports and tankers
  • Tenders go to V-class or elsewhere depending on role
  • Patrol ships go to E-class if escorts and H-class if system defenders or security vessels
  • Tugs go to G-class, Q-class, or U-class depending on size and user.

Remove these. Tugs stay here, as do Tenders. Patrol ships have their own code. Ferries probably go here.

U

Change to "Type U - Packet"

  • Packets ships go to X-class
  • Ferries
  • Smallcraft tug
  • Jump Ship Jump cabooses, jump ferries that are not tenders
  • Tugs remain or go to Q-class if military-dedicated
  • Includes U-class smallcraft except fighters, which are F-class

Remove these. Ferries are Transports (Type T), as are Tugs. Small craft are Q*.

V

Change to "Type V - Destroyer"

  • Carriers
  • Tenders
  • Some tenders go to X-class (Xboat tenders) or T-class if commercial
  • Other possibilities are available although rare

Remove these. Tenders go to T, Carriers have modifier C.

Y

Change to "Type Y - Yacht"

  • All manner of privately owned craft

I suppose this is acceptable. What's the context?

  • Including commuter or passenger smallcraft if system-dedicated and not elsewhere

I don't know, this sounds pedestrian for a "yacht".
