The substantive rank of Marine General Marshal has appeared and disappeared several times over the centuries. A General Marshal (or "Marshal") oversees a group of four or more subsectors (a Quadrant or greater). Marshals are found only in areas where the threat of war is high, carrying with it the corresponding need to quickly move regiments to cover hot spots. As of 1105, there are no General Marshals serving in the Imperial Marines. [1]
Description (Specifications)
The commissioned flag officer rank in the Imperial Marines of Brigadier-General (O8) often carries with it the appointment and duties of a Marine General Marshal, whose responsibilities include command authority over all Fleet Marines in any Numbered Fleets operating in a defined multi-Subsector region as well as the sum total of all Rapid-Reaction Force Marine units assigned to the various Imperial Naval Bases within the same area. A Brigadier-General may also be promoted to serve as a Sector Vice-Marshal in the staff of the Sector Admiral over the Regional Sector Fleet, or at a higher level of importance as Sector Marshal. An Imperial Marine Brigadier-General may also be appointed to duties of similar importance in the staff of the Marshal-Commandant of the Corps on Capital.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Navy is Fleet Admiral.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army GFC is Major General.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army NFC is Sea Admiral.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army COACC is Air Vice-Marshal.
The role of a Marine Marshal appointed as Sector vice-Marshal or Sector Marshal is political and administrative and is thus of greater status than it may appear given it's equivalent Imperial Army rank. An appointment to a rank of this level attracts the title of Baron.
