History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
York is a dry, desert world with small inland seas. This lightly populated backwater world's atmosphere is breathable for the locals but for offworlders unadapted to the environment it is only breathable for short periods of time. For long term exposure filters or respirators are required, due to an exotic compound in the air. When refined, this compound is made into a powerful drug -- and this drug is York's main export.
York is a rather lawless world. The local born Solomani act as strongmen, holding power in the villages around the farmlands near the inland seas and the few drug refineries. York's starport is a "low port" (on the planet) with facilities for small craft that offer refined fuel. The port has a lodge for the Traveller's Aid Society -- with an attached drug den, which is a source of pride for the locals.
