Wilderness has a thin, tainted atmosphere and a complete lack of surface water, making it poorly suited to sophont habitation. The system has a population of tens of millions of sophonts. Government control of this world is by an external military force. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Remnants Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Wilderness, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and the fiefdom of a marquis. Both are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships. During the Long Night this world was named Shuarlirk.

Astrography & Planetology[edit]

Wilderness is a member of the Dagudashaag Main.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Wilderness is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Wilderness has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Wilderness has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Lifeforms of note include Klesh, a large seasonal vegetable with a deep root.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

This world was colonized in 800, by a variety of Antarian travellers. These sophonts (Human, Vargr, and Hhkar) soon learned how to survive on Wilderness. In 956 the colony applied, successfully, to be a part of the Zedan Cultural Region. The "Military Rule" classification exists because the planet is still subordinate to the Naval attache office, and will remain until the official handover in 1130. This is a matter of jurisdiction, and the "Wilders" are left to rule themselves.

The society is divided into the traders, who ride land schooners (maglev wind driven ships) moving over open plains, and the Meccas, enclosed and walled cites established on the farming belt of the planet. The cities grew from the trade of Klesh, a large seasonal vegetable with a deep root for drawing water from deep below the permafrost.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Wilderness has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Wilderness has a population of 20,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).

World Government (G)[edit]

Wilderness has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.

Specifically, this world is under military rule (at least on paper).

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Wilderness has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Wilderness possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Economy[edit]

Classed as a poor world, Wilderness simply chooses not to trade off-planet. The Wilders (as the locals are known) are not xenophobic, indeed very open and friendly to all off-worlders.

Local trade is carried out in "millies" and liters of water. Every person carries a waterskin or jug for holding their wealth. Off-worlders are informed that they should not import water of any quantity -- and the Wilders largely assume off-worlders will also conduct trade with water, and not credits.
