Saffron is a desert world with a thin tainted atmosphere. The system supports a population of fewer than 10,000 sophonts. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Lentuli Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Domain of Antares. Saffron, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. 20% of the world's population is the Major Race Vargr.

	Remarks

History and Background

Saffron has hosted a failed settlement three times, and is now undergoing a fourth attempt. (Attempt #3 suffered an orbital bombardment during the Julian War.) Currently, Saffron earns her wages by retrofitting sublight starships sent to her by the nearby world of Ababat (Empty Quarter 0127) and Lukaau (Empty Quarter 0227). When they arrive, Saffron outfits them with Jump-1 drives.

This is an American Indian world, but few here care for their heritage particularly strongly.

World Starport

Saffron has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Saffron has a population of 2,000 sophonts (thousands).

• This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.
