The Varaha of Bhudevi are a Minor Non-Human Race native to Fulani Sector.
- Their homeworld is located within Vanguard Subsector.
- Their technological competency is rated as sophisticated.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Varaha are smaller than humans, with a trilateral symmetry.
They have broadly egg-shaped torsos covered in a thin downy fur that becomes a broad ruff at the top. Three squat legs emerge from the base of the torso, three long thin arms radiate from the upper part, and a "head", a dome containing a ring of major sensory organs at the top of the body. The brain is located within the torso, directly below the head. A Varaha doesn't really have a front, though most seem to favour facing in a particular direction.
Most Varaha are a reddish-brown color.
Varaha are naturally adapted to climatic conditions similar to those preferred by humans. They create sealed cities that have natural processes for controlling the internal climate.
Billions of Varaha inhabit their homeworld, but only a tiny percentage have intelligence.
- Unintelligent Varaha have broadly the same capabilities as a very smart animal.
- They are referred to as Drones.
- Non-sapient Varaha are not counted as part of the worlds population.
Intelligent Varaha are physically indistinguishable to Drones
Intelligent Varaha tend to be relatively solitary, serving as the leader and thinker of a community of thousands of almost mindless drones - a self-contained city, in effect - directing them through simple instructions, naturally produced chemical signals, and through a process of coercion.
- Non-sapient Varaha do not require intelligent members of the species to live a full and normal life.
- Thinkers help them deal with issues and problems.
Demographics[edit]
The total known population equals 500,000 intelligent individuals and around a billion non-sapient Varaha.
Urbanization[edit]
Multiple large urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.
- Inhabited areas are dotted across the world.
- Structures and facilities are sealed against local environmental conditions.
- Large regions of the surface of the world remain as wilderness.
Psychology[edit]
The Varaha exhibit recognized characteristics of intelligence:
- Conceptual thought, including abstract language.
- Social structure, including social organization.
- Tool use, allowing environmental manipulation.
Varaha psychology is driven by factors common to many sophonts:
- Acquisition (stemming from the need to gather adequate nutrition),
- Preservation (derived from the need to continue their personal existence), and
- Perpetuation (the urge to continue the species).
World Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: 5 (harmonious)
- Acceptance: 3 (xenophobic)
- Strangeness: 7 (confusing)
- Symbols: 6 (somewhat concrete)

Homeworld[edit]
The homeworld of this race is:
- Bhudevi, an agricultural non-industrial world with a thin atmosphere atmosphere and a temperate climate.
Local Technology[edit]
Bhudevi possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion, and the most fundamental atomic energy.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ground cars or automobiles and tracked vehicles.
- Water: Large ships and submersibles with steel hulls.
- Air: Early aircraft including seaplanes and very early unmanned rockets.
Local Government[edit]
Bhudevi is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.
Local Law[edit]
Bhudevi has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Listing: 1105[edit]
Significant communities of this race are known to dwell within the following systems and worlds:
