Union Crucis

A term for the cultural and political forum of Human worlds in trailing Crucis Margin Sector in past centuries; thought to be essentially synonymous with the Amalgamation Union and the Gold Union.

Goals[edit]

Defense seems to have been a primary motive for unity; notably, K'kree Space is nearby.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Union Crucis is thought to have begun with a combination of Human refugees organizing for self defense purposes. In this area, though, two other major factors came into play -- the presence of several minor races of aliens on local planets and the proximity of two separate major races (Hiver and K'kree). Interspecies cooperation and competition has always been present in this area.

Government & Politics (Leadership)[edit]

Humaniti, as the most numerous portion of the population, formed the core around which groups gradually coalesced into ever larger political units. Open warfare was uncommon, although small skirmishes were frequent among the different Humaniti factions. These four factions are believed to have been named:

  • Suo,
  • Sliv,
  • Cast,
  • Nar.

Many of the Suo planets are believed to have had trade relations with the Hive Federation client states of the Hv'ika Kamlin in Kixum Subsector and with other Hiver interests. Most Cast and some Sliv planets apparently traded with the Chhung Kuo and the Two Thousand Worlds.

Dissolution[edit]

It is unknown why the forum known as the Amalgamation Union collapsed, but one unconfirmed story suggests the following series of events:

An expansionist political party supposedly gained prominence in the Nar systems. Unable to expand into the Union, armed incursions were directed into the state known as the Mandanin Co-Dominion. At first successful, Co-Dominion counter efforts became more and more forceful, completely halting Nar expansion.

Economic pressure upon the Nar by the Suo and Cast to cease expansion was resented by the Nar. Sliv extremist groups also viewed this pressure with extreme disfavor. Dissent reached the highest level since the formation of the Union. All political moderates strongly urged peace and accommodation but the situation was fluid. Major political factions exerted as much calming influence as they could but some unknown factor seemed to be agitating for breakup of the Union.

If this history is accurate, they clearly succeeded.
