Stratonimbus is a high-population, industrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water and a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
- Its economy is rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to rapidly improve barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Hive Federation in the Flux Subsector of Spica Sector.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]
One of the most populated worlds in the subsector (though falling far short of Uggi directly across the Solomani border), Stratonimbus, despite its pleasant name, is a rather polluted world. The intense local industry and 3 billion inhabitants have taken their toll on the environment, tainting the atmosphere and water.
World Starport[edit]
Stratonimbus has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
- Ships are subject to mandatory anti-larval fumigation before leaving, to kill any infant Hivers that might have gotten aboard. Hivers are distressed by the notion that a larva might find itself achieving sapience in an environment absent adult Hivers and suitable nests.
World Demographics[edit]
3 billion members of the Hive Federation, most notably Hivers themselves.
World Languages[edit]
- Hiver Sign Language
- Gurvin
- Non-Hiver locals will typically speak Gurvin augmented with a pidgin of local languages and Ithkluri, to provide ambiguity and metaphor lacking from the standard Gurvin vocabulary.
Urbanization[edit]
Hivers are fond of rounded shapes, domes, spheres and non-Euclidian architecture. This is ironic in that many schools of Hiver starship construction are focused around the opposite -- extremely square, boxy ships.
- Hivers like small, cramped domiciles with defined spaces and solid walls. Much of a Hiver nest is subterranean.
- Pet Snohl may be found in the deeper nests.
World Technology Level[edit]
Stratonimbus possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
- Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
- Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
- Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government[edit]
Stratonimbus is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
