Slurn is an agricultural world.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It is a member of the Hive Federation in the Discord-Regal Subsector of Numbis Sector.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Slurn is a large world with a relatively high gravity and an atmosphere in the standard pressure range.
Mainworld Atmosphere[edit]
Industrial pollutants taint the atmosphere around most major centers of habitation; this pollution is not usually intense enough to require the use of filter masks, but on any given day it is possible that the local area is subject to severe pollution. Lack of a filter mask can reduce an individual's physical ability and causes damage.
History and Background[edit]
Slurn is a primitive world with a human population. In about -2200, Solomani colonists settled in parts of the Crucis Margin Sector. After about 500 years, some of those colonists moved on to find new worlds to settle. Some landed on Slurn. Since the local Hiver population was small, these human colonists were readily accepted and given an entire continent to exploit for themselves.
The population remains comparatively small. There are six major states and about a dozen minor ones, all jealous of their sovereignty and subject to frequent shifts in the balance of power between nations and alliances.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Slurn has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Slurn has a population of 30,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).
- The population is Human.
World Demographics[edit]
The small gene pool of the colonists has made them relatively homogeneous: they all tend to be shorter and more muscular than Solomani or Vilani humans, with skin color varying from bronze to chocolate, and blonde or light brown hair.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
Slurn is the local name for the world; the local language is a variant of Anglic, corrupted after centuries of separation from the mainstream of Anglic usage. Actually, there are three major dialects and many smaller ones. Imperial Anglic can be understood and even passed off as a local dialect if necessary.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Slurn possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
World Government (G)[edit]
Slurn has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
The largest nation is Aerrn, a representative democracy, headed by a constitutional monarch who is only a figurehead. True power is held by the Chamberlain, elected jointly by the Chamber of Delegates and the Chamber of Deputies.
World Law (L)[edit]
Slurn has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Points of Interest[edit]
When the K'kree occupied this world during the Hiver-K'kree War, they established large complexes of ship support facilities, arsenals, and quarters for the occupation troops. True to K'kree architecture, while they often included shelter from the elements, rarely were the walls more than a simple row of bricks on the ground. Over the centuries, the roof support poles disappeared, but the patterns left by the walls still remain. There were several areas which were occupied by the K'kree. All but one site have been returned to their natural state or developed for other purposes.
There are rumours of hidden subterranean garages for elite K'kree armored vehicle troops on Slurn. The caverns were never discovered, and they may still hold the immense fission-powered armored behemoths. The vehicles themselves are impractical and useless.
The Plains of Abraham
From the air, the Plains are a wildly patterned prairie of sparse grass and tan clay soil. The lines of the long-gone K'kree constructions are still there, and some patterns hint at large roads and vehicle compounds.
The Plains of Abraham are relatively remote but are still guarded; the area has been preserved untouched. It covers several hundred square kilometers and could be an important historical site. There is little interest in the subject among the Hivers (or the local Humans), so little is actually known about the region.
