Slud is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.

Astrography and Planetology[edit]

This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.

Slud has a solitary primary star.

System Data[edit]

Grend-Slud System[edit]

The primary is Grend, an ordinary yellow main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.52 Sols, a mass of 0.871 Sols and a diameter of 1.264 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum inner world, and (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world. (III) Slud orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (V) a dense atmosphere stormworld, (VI) a vacuum iceworld, (VII) a sparse rocky planetoid belt, (VIII) a ringed large gas giant, (IX) a ringed very large gas giant, and (X) a sparse stony planetoid belt form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(III) Slud[edit]

(III) Slud is designated the mainworld. It orbits Grend at a mean distance of 0.7 AU (103 million km), it has an orbital period of 226 days 6 hours and a rotation period of 22.5 hours. The axial tilt is 9 degrees. Slud has a diameter of 9,963 km, a density of 5.23 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.74 G. It is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.68 bar and a composition of 76% nitrogen (N2), 23% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 38% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges are less than 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 9°C. The atmosphere is relatively dynamic and local weather systems, driven by the star and the seas, swirl within lowland basins and spill over the mountains. The climate is seasonal.

Satellite[edit]

Slud retains a single natural satellite, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Flook.

(IIIa) Flook (UWP H200000-0, orbiting at 30 Diameters/299,000 km).

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 312 million km², Land surface area: 193 million km², Water surface area: 119 million km². Much of the northern hemisphere is covered by the shallow Ocean of Silt: a large icecap is located at the northern pole. The southern hemisphere is dominated by the Transpolar Alps, an ice-covered range of high peaks with long rugged chains of mountains and hills radiating towards the equator. Between the upland regions are broad plains dotted with lakes and seas. The largest of these is the Great Temperate Hollow, more than 4000 km across and lying along the equator. The Hollow is the site of human settlement on the world.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Slud, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. Flora tends towards tall, slender forms with spherical leaves and is primarily green in colour. Fauna follows the general body pattern Bilateral HBS-T-LN-LL-T, with a skeleton internal structure, hemolymph fluids, and a skin exterior. Unique species are found within each lowland region. The apex predator on the world is the Kassa Worm, a large flying pouncer with a body pattern Bilateral HBS-T-WW-LN-T and sharp, powerful claws.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (IV) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has extensive native life, consisting of minute multicellular organisms that can be found in most ecological niches. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World starport[edit]

Slud has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level[edit]

Slud possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.

World government[edit]

Slud is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
