Sanggan is a poor, nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often develop intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Star Bridge Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
  • It orbits the system's secondary star.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Sanggan is a binary star system.

  • The primary is a yellow main sequence.
  • The secondary is a red main sequence.
Sanggan has two stars in the star system.

Notes[edit]

The two stars of the Sanggan system have an average separation of 150 AU and orbit a barycenter that lies between them.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

  • The mainworld, orbiting the secondary star.
  • x10 secondary rocky worlds. Six orbit the primary star, four orbit the secondary star.
  • x2 planetoid belts. Both have circumbinary orbits, lying at around 310 AU and 430 AU from the two stars respectively.
  • x3 gas giants. Two orbit the primary star, one orbits the secondary star.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Sanggan is a small-standard tidally-locked world with a very thin atmosphere, tainted with unusually high radon counts.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Sanggan is relatively young world with very active plate tectonics, driven by a core with a larger than usual amount of uranium and thorium. Thus the core is hotter and less viscous, and produces more elemental radon as the heavier elements slowly undergo natural fission.

Most of the world water is kept in the northern ice cap; the southern pole is barren.

World Starport[edit]

Sanggan has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World Technology Level[edit]

Sanggan possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government[edit]

Sanggan is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to draft the policies voted upon. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by the voting population.

For larger issues, a Meeting is called at the starport bazaar. Each group leader is expected to speak and opine on the issue of the day. A voice vote or occasionally a show-of-hands shows the overall decision of the population, which is generally accepted by all, though dissenters sometimes continue to refuse.

World Law Level[edit]

Sanggan has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

Truly flagrant weapon use can cause the creation of an ad hoc military force (a "posse") to control the situation.

World Military[edit]

World Economy[edit]

Sanggan is world with little order, and where might makes right. Various groups have formed tribal arrangement for survival against both the environment and endemic violence.

This chaotic situation make it difficult to construct lasting elements or build industry. A stark example is the Saanggan downport, originally a class-C installation, which now operates as a class-E.

Trade Data[edit]

Resources acquired by various groups are bartered or traded with visiting traders and travellers at the downport in a continuing bazaar.

World Culture[edit]

Urbanization[edit]

The downport is the only advanced urban environment, such as it is. It nonetheless maintains a enclosed, filtered atmosphere and its own professional security forces and administration.

Other groups have acquired plastic domes from Hyperborea or Orient. Others have reinforced and built out ancient grounded starcraft as homes.

Outsiders are not well tolerated outside of the downport, and are largely considered fair game.
