Luray is a low-population world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts in size.
- This world has yet to take off economically or otherwise and the population remains low for reasons largely unknown.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Atoon Subsector of Gateway Sector.
- This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it dangerous to visitors.
- This world toils under the control of a military government with conditions reflecting that situation, including curtailed civil rights and limited freedoms.
- The Hochiken People's Assembly has installed a military government on this planet.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Luray is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Luray has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Luray has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Topography and Geography[edit]
Outside the fortified port area, Luray is a gigantic, chilly swamp.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Luray has a complex and robust biosphere; the swamps are roamed by a variety of dangerous creatures, some of which attack the port or its supporting farms from time to time.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
When neighboring Inast was conquered by a rogue Hochiken fleet some years ago, tenuous trade links were created with the HPA and with the Heptad Worlds of Windfleet. Luray provides neutral ground where trade and some unofficial diplomacy can take place. The population live in a fortified enclosure, the remains of an old city and Downport built by corporations operating out of the Heptad.
Starport[edit]
Luray has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
The designation of B-class for the starport is rather kind; the orbital Highport is a poor remnant of what it once was, prone to dangerous system failures. Ground facilities are run-down but still functional. The Downport and its environs are often a dangerous place, however, with various factions competing for control, sometimes violently. Refugees from the Plavian League and the Hochiken People's Assembly (usually criminals and political escapees respectively) swell the number of colonists from time to time.
World Population (P)[edit]
Luray has a population of 9,000 sophonts (thousands).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Luray possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Luray has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
Luray has come under the control of rogue Hochiken military forces out of Inast, itself a conquest. Nonetheless, many consider Luray "neutral ground"; the Hochiken use it for this purpose.
World Law (L)[edit]
Luray has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
