Kobe is a poor, nonindustrial world.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This world has few prospects for economic development.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Kobe Subsector of Crucis Margin Sector.
  • This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it dangerous to visitors.
  • This world-system has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships, which may be located on or off-world.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Kobe is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Kobe has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Kobe has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Koban capital is invested in businesses scattered across many systems of Crucis Margin.

Kobe's influence is such that when threatened, the Corporate Republic of Kobe normally responds by asking a number of friendly worlds to loan a vessel or two each, or by leaning on the Old Worlds to apply pressure. Most potential aggressors back down when it becomes obvious that an attack on Kobe would result in war with multiple other worlds, or a visit from an Old Worlds task force.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Kobe has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Kobe has a population of 6,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Government (G)[edit]

Kobe is governed by a Non-charismatic Dictatorship. This is a continuation of the charismatic dictatorship, where the original leadership has died or retired and been replaced by allies or protégés. The justifications for the original change in government remain as well as the assertion of rights to rule.

World Military[edit]

Kobe buys high technology weapon systems and vessels from the Old Worlds, allowing it to maintain a small but high-tech fleet for territorial defense. This force is backed up by home-built vessels of lower capability, which are normally deployed on escort or picket duty.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Kobe has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Kobe possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
