The Gumahl of Gumahler (Gushemege 1237) are a technologically sophisticated Minor Non-Human Race with a Non-humanoid appearance.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The main feature of Gumahl physiology, and indeed that of all Gumahler's indigenous life, is their unusual skeleton. Instead of rigid bones they have cartilaginous telescopic rods that allow them to change from being tall and lithe one minute to squat and strong the next. Mouth, eyes, hands/claws, fingers/toes are all similarly telescopic appendages.

They are bipedal, with strong telescopic legs, and have the last vestiges of a tail. Gumahl have four telescopic arms and hands; a short set of arms on either side of the upper chest (usually used for delicate work) and a powerful set of full-length arms as the shoulder. The head is mounted on a telescopic neck and is itself quite angular with the telescopic mouth/jaw assembly and eyes.

Gumahl are carnivores, eating meat either raw or cooked.

Reproduction[edit]

The Gumahl have three sexes. Two of these contribute genetic material during reproduction, and the third acts as a host for the embryo, and as a carer as the young develop. Gumahl genetic couples mate for life, while a carer might be associated with several couples, and has a lifetime bond with each of them.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

They are a vicious warrior race, and have been in conflict with their Human neighbors since their first encounter with the Vilani First Imperium. At that time the Gumahl were at TL–7 and on the point of annihilating themselves with their own biological weapons. The Vilani were themselves in conflict with the Loeskalth at the time, and saw in the Gumahl a useful source of mercenaries.

During the latter part of the Long Night, Gumahl raiders were a threat to surrounding systems. Under the Third Imperium, they are restricted to their homeworld.

Society[edit]

Gumahl civil police carry an array of incapacitating range weapons -- glue sprays, tranquilizer gas grenades, rubber bullets, etc. These are used because direct physical combat between two Gumahl is usually a short and bloody encounter.

Gumahl buildings have a characteristic conical shape.
