Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Eztlev is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Eztlev has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Eztlev has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Eztlev has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Eztlev has a population of 300,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).

World Demographics[edit]

As the settlements of native Irchban were scattered and subterranean, a Zhodani base had already been established here for a number of years before Irchban sapience was recognized. With their inclination toward embellishment and a seemingly perverse desire to be deceived, the Irchban psychology is mildly abhorrent to most sane Zhodani. After many years of trial and error, an intendant made an interspecies breakthrough by successfully conveying the essential teachings of Morality's Path to a local chieftain by couching it in terms of an epic allegorical narrative.

The only Irchban who are permitted to leave Eztlev are those who have successfully embraced Zhodani teaching and been deemed sane by Consulate auditors.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

  • Zdetl, the common language of the Zhodani Consulate.
  • Irchban, the language of the native Irchban.

World Government (G)[edit]

Eztlev is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.

The Zhodani Consulate maintains itself through a variety of taxes on goods and services. Each council -- planetary or higher -- has the authority to levy a tax on gross income to support services like hospitals, emergency and transport services, or the Tavrchedl'.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Eztlev has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. On worlds with this degree of law, it is difficult to distinguish the police from the military. On others, there is no difference.

Irchban are considered potentially compatible (though essentially remedial) with Zhodani society. Nevertheless, to reduce the potential for psychological cross-contamination and the need for re-education, a high degree of law and preventive observation is maintained on Eztlev, including extensive thought-monitoring throughout settlements where Zhodani and Irchban might cross paths.

Three broad categories of crime are recognized by the Zhodani Consulate: inadvertent, incited, and insane. The concept of premeditated crime for personal gain fits under the insane heading.

  • Inadvertent crime is an unintentional violation or infraction of the law, resulting from inattention. For minor cases the usual punishment is a small fine.
  • Incited crime is an infraction of a law brought about by another, often resulting from an overreaction to inadvertent crime or misfortune. The solution is re-education.
  • Insane crime is a general heading for most major crimes against property or individuals.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Eztlev possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
