Esqua is a poor, nonindustrial desert world with no free-standing water.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below technology standards for Charted Space.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Esqua Subsector of Far Home Sector.
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.

System Data[edit]
Chamano-Esqua System[edit]
The primary is Chamano, a huge red giant star. It has a luminosity of 2587 Sols, a mass of 8.74 Sols and a diameter of 456 million km – the star's corona extends out to 1.52 AU, within orbital position (V). The inner system consists of (V) an extremely hot large gas giant orbiting close to the surface of the star, (VIII) a vacuum inner world, and (IX) an exotic atmosphere hospitable world – orbital positions (VI) and (VII) are empty. (X) Maranask, a thin atmosphere radworld, orbits within the habitable zone: (Xa) Esqua is its only moon and is designated the mainworld. (XI-I) an exotic atmosphere hospitable world, (XI-II) a large gas giant, (XII-I) a small gas giant, and (XII-II) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
(X) Maranask[edit]
(X) Maranask (UWP Y640000-0) is designated a radworld. It orbits Chamano at a mean distance of 37.9 AU (5.67 billion km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 78 years 337 days and a rotation period of 35 hours. The axial tilt is 18 degrees. Maranask has a diameter of 9,489 km, a density of 3.76 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.51 G. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.38 bar and a composition of 86% nitrogen (N2), 11% abiotic oxygen (O2), 1% carbon dioxide (CO2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), radon (Rn), xenon (Xe), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen, the high levels of background radiation and radioactive atmospheric gases: emission rates exceed 20 rads per hour. Approximately 2% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water. Mean surface temperature: 44°C. The climate is rated as Hot and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and powerful weather systems driven by the star surge across the globe.
Mainworld Data[edit]
(Xa) Esqua[edit]
(Xa) Esqua is the only major moons of (X) Maranask and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 15 diameters (142,000 km), with an orbital period of of 6 days 8 hours: it is tidally locked to Maranask. The axial tilt is 4 degrees relative to Maranask. Esqua has a diameter of 5,333 km, a density of 5.44 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.41 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Maranask cause frequent geological activity. The atmosphere is rated as Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.59 bar and a composition of 81% nitrogen (N2), 18% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Around 4% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water. Mean surface temperature: 29°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Warm and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and strong weather systems driven by the star sweep across the globe.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
Total surface area: 89 million km², Land surface area: 85 million km², Water surface area: 4 million km². The Feeder Plateau, a huge upland region lying on the equator, is the highest land on the world. The Hotspurs, a rugged series of mountain ridges, radiate out from the plateau and divide the world into distinct highland and lowland regions. The cooler temperate and subpolar zones, while still arid, contain low-lying lakes of open water and large underground aquifers.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Chamano-Esqua System[edit]
Maranask, lying within the habitable zone, has primitive radiation-tolerant native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that thrive in the harsh conditions. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Esqua, the mainworld, has extensive native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. Esqua has a large number of introduced species, largely hardy types of flora, which inhabit any ecological niche where that they can survive.
No other world in the system is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
No information yet available.
World starport[edit]
Esqua has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World technology level[edit]
Esqua possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion, and the most fundamental atomic energy.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ground cars or automobiles and tracked vehicles.
- Water: Large ships and submersibles with steel hulls.
- Air: Early aircraft including seaplanes and very early unmanned rockets.
World government[edit]
Esqua is governed by a Corporate Polity with a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. A company town, or world. The typical corporate run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.
