Ellipsoid World

An Ellipsoid World is a larger world, which would normally have experienced gravitational rounding, but didn’t for an unknown reason. They are extremely rare and only exist naturally under the most exotic of conditions.

Please see the following AAB articles for related information:

Description / Specifications[edit]

Most worlds within certain specifications, form spheres not ellipsoids due to several factors including hydrostatic equilibrium. So, when does an ellipsoid form? Well, in many cases, an ellipsoid is a planetoid that has not reached sufficient size to form a sphere through hydrostatic equilibrium.

But what about larger ellipsoidal objects?

  • Theoretical science has a number of ideas about this, but the deeper reasons are still not well understood. Many ellipsoids are focuses of scientific curiosity for that reason.

Planetary Characteristics[edit]

An Ellipsoid World is an egg-shaped planet.

Probably Planetary Orbit & Climate[edit]

Ellipsoid worlds often have only partial atmospheres with some areas protected by the atmosphere and others not covered.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

Such worlds have exceedingly odd atmospheres, which holds some very interesting implications for the development of native creature and sophont species. NILs of such rare worlds are thought to possess considerable advantages in developing a space program ahead of established TL expectations.

Worlds & Sectors (Astrography)[edit]

Ellipsoids can be found throughout Charted Space.
