History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Dustpan is a Balkanized desert world with some six countries, each at odds with the others. Wars are common, and their most spectacular aspect is the sight of the huge tracked aircraft carriers used in most assaults winding their way across the sands.

There are ice-bearing asteroids in the system which could be mined for water but none of the Dustpan governments will use spacecraft. Centuries ago, one of the nations used satellite-mounted weaponry to attack its rivals, wiping out several thousand people. Since then, there has been an absolute ban on any development of space technology.

Visiting traders planning to sell icewater to the thirsty Pansmen will find that richer customers refuse to drink 'tainted spacewater'.

Trivia[edit]

The Area Command of the Strend Cluster sends jump-2 vessels spinward by way of Dustpan.
