Duchy of Atsah

An administrative subdivision of the Third Imperium, one of the duchies of politically volatile Deneb Sector.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Duchy of Atsah exerts strong influence over neighbouring Corridor Sector.

The Denebian Duchies[edit]

There is no Sector Duke in Deneb. Differences of opinion or agenda between the sector's seven duchies are settled by way of diplomacy or force. Major worlds build and maintain Deneb's capital fleets, but these fleets are all Imperial by default and are not used for resolving internal, regional disputes. This is an Imperial law, put into effect after the Civil War period. As a result, Dukes in the Deneb Sector only have a small percentage of a duchy's resources available for resolving local conflict. Each Duke maintains a number of small starships for various purposes but it is always more cost effective to hire companies and mercenaries for general-purpose commercial and tactical work. It is also common for a duchy to sell Letters of Marque and Reprisal to accomplish certain general objectives. The duchies live in a milieu of shifting alliances, as each acts and reacts to the changing political and business climate of the sector.

Atsah Politics (specifics)[edit]

Duke Atsah has neither Counts nor Marquises to advise him -- or to get in his way. Atsah exerts overwhelming influence in Million Subsector and keeps agents and ships stationed in Dunmag Subsector, to serve as advance warning of actions taken by the duchies of Inar or Vincennes.

Atsah is generally neutral toward the Duchy of Usani.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Atsah Subsector was formerly the location of the Atsak Federation, a Vargr state centered on the world of Atsah. After a show of appropriate Imperial military strength and cunning, each world was ceded to a separate Vargr warlord, with the exception of Atsah itself, which was claimed for the ‘Imperial’ warlord, the Emperor, who ruled by proxy through his Duke. In 200 Atsah Subsector was admitted into the Third Imperium. Notably, the Vargr warlords swear fealty to the Duke of Atsah not in his position as Duke but as leader of the heads of the Vargr Enclaves.

The 11 Vargr worlds that were once part of the Atsak Federation now comprise the Atsah Cultural Region. Most people view all these worlds as Imperial, despite the technical legality that they are not.

Astrography[edit]

Atsah maintains a Jump Bridge on a single, very large ice asteroid in Deneb Sector Hex 2814. This links 10 worlds in Dunmag and Atsah subsectors with a jump-1 Main which begins in Trailing Atsah and runs throughout the Ian and Khouth subsectors in Corridor. In total this main contains 21 systems in Deneb and another 20 worlds in Corridor.
