A Duchy is ruled by a Duke or Subsector Duke within the Third Imperium.

• Most duchies are the size of a Subsector, and ruled by a Subsector Duke, but many tend to grow to several subsectors.
• Some duchies are single (all be it important) planets, and ruled by a Duke
• In some Sectors, subsector dukedoms cover a sector quadrant or four subsectors.
• Actual duchy size varies throughout the Third Imperium.
• In ideal practice, a duchy rules over a subsector-sized area of Imperial Space, which typically encompasses 10 to 30 systems/worlds.
