Edaridur is a garden world with a near-ideal environment conducive to most forms of life. The system supports a population of fewer than 10,000 sophonts. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Old Suns Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Edaridur, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. During the Long Night this world was named Unaamki.
Astrography and planetology[edit]
Edaridur is a member of the Shegimuud Trace.
History and background[edit]
During the Rule of Man, many settlers on Daridura (Dagudashaag 1605) left to colonize Edaridur. While the difference between the names Daridura <New Desert Nome> and Edaridur <Not Desert Home> were obvious to Vilani, the subtleties of Vilani grammar and pronunciation were utterly lost on the Terrans who accidentally renamed both worlds Dardua.
When the IISS first surveyed the area they used the old Second Imperium navigational information as a basis and perpetuated the error. Despite the identical spelling each name is pronounced differently and thus both names have stuck.
Edaridur is governed by Naasirka, who maintain a vast automated chemical waste processing plant on the surface and a single starport in orbit. The facility deals with a wide range of substances, most of which are used in medicine or industry. The location of the site has caused outrage amongst environmental groups: Edaridur is known across the sector for its rugged natural beauty, but in many areas the sensitive and delicate ecosystems have already been blighted by chemical spills and leakages. The local inhabitants blame the recent increase in cancer amongst its population on the presence of the Naasirka plant.
World Starport[edit]
Edaridur has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Edaridur has a population of 1,000 sophonts (thousands).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.
World Languages[edit]
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Edaridur possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Edaridur is governed by a Corporate Polity, having a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. Essentially, this is a "company town" (or world). The typical corporate-run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families, including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.
- The Imperial megacorporation Naasirka runs this world.
World Law (L)[edit]
Edaridur has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
