Caramin is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Irikusk Subsector of Far Home Sector.
- It is a Voluntarily Regressive World
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
System Data[edit]
Sarazan-Caramin System[edit]
The primary is Sazaran, an ordinary yellow-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 1.668 Sols, a mass of 1.092 Sols, and a diameter of 1.536 million km. The inner system consists of (III) a thin atmosphere hospitable world – orbital positions (I) and (II) are empty. (IV) Caramin orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (V) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (VI) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, (VII) an insidious atmosphere bigworld, and (VIII) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Sono Subsystem[edit]
The companion is Sono, a tiny dwarf star lying approximately 6,150 AU from Sazaran. It has a luminosity of 0.00003 Sols, a mass of 1.11 Sols, and a diameter of 8,450 km. It does not retain a planetary system.
Mainworld Data[edit]
(IV) Caramin[edit]
(IV) Caramin is designated the mainworld. It orbits Sazaran at a mean distance of 1.11 AU (166.1 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 1 year 44 days and a rotation period of 35 hours. The axial tilt is 24 degrees. Caramin has a diameter of 13,159 km, a density of 5.35 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.00 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.04 bar and a composition of 70% nitrogen (N2), 29% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the high percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 84% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.3m. Mean surface temperature: 18°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Prime and experiences moderate seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is dynamic and strong weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe.
Satellites[edit]
Caramin retains two natural satellites, a tiny vacuum worldlet named Stinson and a trace atmosphere worldlet named Eratha:
- (IVa) Stinson (UWP YS00000-0, orbiting at 4 Diameters/50,000 km)
- (IVb) Eratha (UWP Y210000-0, orbiting at 35 Diameters/460,000 km)
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
Total surface area: 544 million km², Water surface area: 457 million km², Land surface area: 87 million km².
- The taint is caused by the high levels of atmospheric oxygen. Breathing the atmosphere without suitable filtration equipment will cause oxygen narcosis and oxygen toxicity. Symptoms include sensations of euphoria and nausea, seizures, bouts of physical rigidity followed by convulsions and unconsciousness, breathing difficulties, damage to the lungs and the heart, and death.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Sarazan-Caramin System[edit]
The hot marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (III) (within the H– region of the inner system) has primitive extremophile native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that thrive in the harsh conditions. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
Caramin, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
No other world in the system is known to have native life.
Sono Subsystem[edit]
The subsystem has no planetary bodies and does not have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
No information yet available.
World starport[edit]
Caramin has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level[edit]
Caramin possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone and telegraphs, widespread printing.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Trains and early automobiles.
- Water: Clippers and steam ships.
- Air: Dirigibles, balloons, very basic rockets.
World government[edit]
Caramin has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
