Boondocks is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is an independent member of the Julian Protectorate in the Faraeng Subsector of Amdukan Sector.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This world is part of the namesake Boondocks Trace.
Stellar Data[edit]
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x4 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Boondocks is a Big World between 15,200km and 16,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1.1G and 1.5G. The horizon will appear about 5.7km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
- A high gravity acclimatisation course, consisting of a regimen of physical exercise in gradually increased gravity, and lasting some two or three weeks, is recommended before a Traveller operates on Boondocks. Many starlines operating services to this world offer such courses.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Boondocks has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Boondocks has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
World Starport (St)[edit]
Boondocks has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Boondocks has a population of 2,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
- Julian Anglic: A variant of Transform Anglic, and one of the official languages of the Julian Protectorate.
- Irilitok: The language family of the most populous Vargr phenotype and ethnic culture within the Julian Protectorate.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Boondocks possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Boondocks has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
Julian Protectorate[edit]
This world's major nations are part of the Julian Protectorate, a confederation whose primary purpose is mutual protection of its members. Individual members conduct their own foreign policy and trade; mediation between member states and region-wide communications services are provided by the Protectorate, as is consistent interstellar law. The Protectorate also defines standards for equipment and protocols to ensure interoperability and coordination.
World Law (L)[edit]
Boondocks has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
World Economy[edit]
Currency is the Julian Star.
