Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Arunisiir is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Arunisiir has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Arunisiir has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

  • Note that this does not take into account the extensive wetlands and swamps covering a good proportion of the land.

Mainworld Topography and Geography[edit]

  • Darinuur-Central Range

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

Fauna includes Species P41, known locally as "murder goats". They do indeed vaguely resemble a Terran goat but have clawed hands and feet rather than hooves.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

An ambitious ihatei and his band of followers seized Arunisiir in 809. However, the occupying Aslan force soon degenerated into two dozen squabbling factions, each of which was forced to ally with the defeated humans in order to maintain their strength. Today, less than a dozen Aslan families are left on Arunisiir and their rule is largely symbolic.

  • The true ruling caste are the human adjuncts to the Aslan.
  • The other major political faction is the People's League, a revolutionary group dedicated to driving the remaining Aslan offworld.

World Starport[edit]

Arunisiir has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • As a port of entry to the Wildeman Cluster, Baron Arenii Memorial Starport has a healthy local trade sector, with goods from elsewhere bought for resale throughout the cluster. Although Arunisiir itself is only TL-6, the starport has a TL-10 manufacturing base.

World Population (P)[edit]

Arunisiir has a population of 100,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Urbanization[edit]

Much of the land is either waterlogged or covered in thick forests which have proven resistant to imported species. Some local predators are dangerous, making expeditions into the forests hazardous. As a result, Human habitation is largely confined to cleared areas, on higher ground not prone to flooding.

City-states include the following:

  • Kinddur: Located far inland and close to the starport. Much of the trade coming into Arunisiir through the downport radiates out along the canals close to Kinddur.
  • Kroenich: A coastal city that builds the best watercraft. Some Kroenich-built vessels are ocean-going ships which engage in coastal trade.
  • Tarenii: Located right next to the downport and possessing most of the world's small manufacturing base. Tarenii claims to be the de facto world capital, and generally hosts any face-to-face meetings that take place between ruling oligarchs.

World Government (G)[edit]

Arunisiir is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

World Military[edit]

The armed forces of most city-states consist of an "elite" guard for the local oligarch, a body of less equipped enforcers, and the Canal Patrol, a force dedicated to keeping the canals that link cities clear and safe. Much of the work of the Canal Patrol is very mundane. It is a dull occupation, but essential to society on Arunisiir.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Arunisiir has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Arunisiir possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
