Altamachi is an icy vacuum world with little or no atmosphere and a significant quantity of water frozen on the surface. The system supports a population of fewer than 10,000 sophonts. The world lies substantially outside of the habitable zone of the system and environmental temperatures are well below the freezing point of many gases. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Bolivar Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Altamachi, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. During the Long Night this world was named Iidshias.

History and background

In the year 868 the Brotherhood of Chalmatchi monks were called to cease their great journey and build a monastery on this hitherto unnamed planet. For 100 years the monastery flourished, producing handmade space suits, spaceships, and high-tech hand-to-hand weapons of the highest quality. These items were viewed by travelers as blessed, and much of the equipment is still in use today, a tribute to the quality of their workmanship.

For simple economic reasons in 1000 the monastery all but failed. There are still a handful of monks who keep their flame burning and gladly share what little they have with passing travellers. Many of their arts have not been lost and will still do special orders for vacc-suits, PLSS's, weapons, etc.
