History & Background (Dossier)
Howood has been part of the luxury trade since the discovery of Pretoria (Deneb 0406) around the year 300. There are rumors that Vilani explorers had discovered it before the Long Night as well. It compares very well with famous Terran hardwoods such as oak, teak, mahogany, and the like. In fact, a mature howood is far more dense than the average Terran hardwood.
Derived Products (Goods & Services)
It is used as a luxury hardwood on many products from consumer furniture, to jewelry, to expensive yacht starship interior siding.
Travellers' Aid Society Advisory
The Travellers' Aid Society (TAS) classifies howood as non-threatening to most sophonts and makes no special advisory regarding this organism.
Unsourced Reports
However, it is noted that howood contains unique protein structures that are highly allergenic to many sophont species including Ael Yael, Bwaps, and Vargr. Howood has not been adequately tested and its allergenic status amongst many species is unknown at this time. Many species of Humaniti seems to possess no allergic reactions to howwod although some physicians suspect that many Minor Human Race species may be vulnerable to howood.
Some claim that these reports are hoaxes coming from Howood luxury materials competitors.
