Sergeant Major (IM)
The rank of Sergeant Major (E9) is the non-commissioned officer rank in the Imperial Marines for the most senior non-commissioned officer in an Imperial Marine Battalion.
Description (Specifications)
Each Battalion in the Imperial Marines has one Sergeant Major who is the most senior Sergeant in the unit. Some Imperial Marine staff appointments are also by Sergeant Majors
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Navy is Master Chief Petty Officer.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army (Ground Forces Command) is Sergeant Major.
The Sergeant Major attached to the staff of the Marshal-Commandant of the Corps has the title Sergeant Major of the Corps and represents the enlisted ranks of the Imperial Marines to the most senior Officers as well as undertaking other, mostly ceremonial, duties.

The term sergeant refers to a non-commissioned officer placed above the rank of a corporal. The term sergeant major thus refers to the chief of these sergeants.
