Lariz is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Brink Subsector of Shadow Rift Sector.

Astrography and Planetology

This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.

Lariz has two stars in the star system.

System Data

Gluck-Lariz System

The primary is Gluck, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.352 Sols, a mass of 0.774 Sols, and a diameter of 1.168 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum inner world, and (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world. (III) Lariz orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. Orbital positions (IV) through (VII) are unavailable due to the presence of the companion star. (VIII-I) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (VIII-II) a large gas giant, (IX) a small gas giant, and (X) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mausak Subsystem

The companion is Mausak, a red subdwarf star that orbits Gluck at a mean distance of 2.72 AU (orbital position (V), 406.9 million km) and has an orbital period of 5 years 36 days. It has a luminosity of 0.011 Sols, a mass of 0.154 Sols, and a diameter of 256,000 km. (I-I) a sparse stony planetoid belt, and (I-II) an exotic atmosphere radworld form the outer system. The radworld retains a satellite.

Mainworld Data

(III) Lariz

(III) Lariz is designated the mainworld. It orbits Gluck at a mean distance of 0.63 AU (94.2 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 207 days 14 hours and a rotation period of 22 hours. The axial tilt is 41 degrees. Lariz has a diameter of 7,899 km, a density of 3.86 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.43 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.33 bar and a composition of 80% nitrogen (N2), 18% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% carbon dioxide (CO2), water vapor (H2O), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 40% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.3m. Mean surface temperature: 28°C. The atmosphere is active and strong weather systems driven by the star and the seas drive across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Satellites

Lariz retains two natural satellites, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Rhym and a tiny vacuum worldlet named Peal:

(IIIa) Rhym (UWP Y100000-0, orbiting at 45 Diameters/355,000 km)
(IIIb) Peal (UWP YS00000-0, orbiting at 55 Diameters/435,000 km)

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 196 million km², Land surface area: 118 million km², Water surface area: 78 million km².

Native Lifeforms

Lariz, the mainworld, has primitive native life, consisting almost entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in most ecological niches. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Lariz has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Lariz possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World government

Lariz is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
