Description / Specifications

The Interface Lander is designed to ferry cargo and fuel between a world’s surface and close orbit. It is a common in-system transport vessel within the Distant Fringe and is frequently carried as a subcraft aboard large commercial vessels. Similar designs have been in use from the time the Distant Fringe was first settled.

  • The vessel is a TL 9 design.

Hull

The Interface Lander is constructed using a 400 dTon hull built in a generally cone-shaped configuration. The hull is fully streamlined and is equipped with fuel scoops.

  • Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls.
  • The hull includes internal grav plates and inertial compensators.

Engineering

The vessel mounts a maneuver-2 drive and a power plant 2, giving performance of 2G acceleration. There is fuel tankage of 8 dTons, giving the power plant four weeks duration. The ship carries a collapsible fuel tank with a capacity of 300 dTons. The craft is fitted with a fuel purification plant.

Main Section

Adjacent to the bridge is a computer model/2: the vessel carries an additional backup computer model/2. The vessel has a secure locker with a capacity of 2 dTons. There are 4 staterooms and 20 low berths. Double occupancy is required for all except the command crew. Cargo capacity amounts to 300 dTons: the stowed collapsible fuel tank uses 15 dTons of cargo space.

  • The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a sensor suite, and an avionics bay.

Crew

The Interface Lander requires 6 crew: 2x command, 1x engineering, 1x gunnery, and 2x service. If the Lander is carried as a subcraft, the crew also serve as service and maintenance personnel aboard the parent vessel.

Weapons

The ship is fitted with 4 turrets. These are grouped into;

  • one sandcaster battery, consisting of 4 linked triple turrets

Subcraft

None.

Cost

The basic cost of the vessel is MCr142.420. The craft is a standard design and qualifies for a 20% discount, which reduces the total price to MCr113.936.

History / Background

An interface craft primarily designed to shuttle fuel, cargo and sundries between a worlds surface and close orbit. It is frequently used as an in-system transport, carrying equipment and supplies to secondary worlds within a system. The design is representative and a large number of variants exist, particularly with regard to the allotted weapons systems, onboard electronics, and the fit out of internal spaces.
