Description / Specifications
The Attack Shuttle is a multi-role craft used in a variety of circumstances. Similar designs have been in use from the time the Distant Fringe was first settled. This is an armed and armored version of the design produced locally on Salatho (world). They serve among a variety of nations as part of the Salatho National Military Forces.
- The vessel is a TL 9 design.
Hull
The Attack Shuttle is constructed using a 90-dTon hull built in a generally cone-shaped configuration. The hull is fully streamlined.
- Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls. Sections of the ship can be isolated in the event of an emergency.
- The hull includes internal grav plates and inertial compensators. All accessible sections of the hull have life support.
Engineering
The vessel mounts a maneuver-6 drive and a power plant 6, giving performance of 6G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 1. There is fuel tankage of 5.4 dTons, giving the power plant 4 weeks duration.
Main Section
The vessel is equipped with a bridge mounted computer model/3 and a pilot’s acceleration couch: there is an additional cockpit couch. There is one small stateroom for extended life support. s: six of these are designated as crew quarters, while the remaining two serve as a kitchen and a fresher respectively. Cargo capacity amounts to 30 dTons.
- The vessel is fitted with system range laser, maser and radio communications equipment, a military grade target tracking fire control sensor array, and an stealthed avionics suite.
Crew
The Attack Shuttle requires 1 crew: a Pilot/Weapons Officer
Weapons
The ship has one triple beam laser turret, firing as a single battery.
Subcraft
None.
Cost
The basic cost of the vessel is MCr116.45 (base)
MCr93.16 (discounted).
- The ship is a modification of a standard design. Detailed architectural plans are not widely available and a MCr. 1.165 design fee is chargeable.
- If multiple examples of the design are ordered all of the ships in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces their price to MCr93.16.
History / Background
A relatively low-tech design used throughout the Salatho (world) system by a variety of nations. Its 6G speed is useful for interception of civilian craft, but it lacks the turn and burn agility of a true dog fighter. Small squadrons of these craft harry would be invaders and act as system defense craft. The single crew member has excellent factor 7 armor protection and a powerful triple beam laser battery to destroy enemy fighters. The advanced model 3 computer drains power as do the lasers, which is what limits the agility from what designers had hoped for. Doubling the size of the drives and fusion power plant, and the layers of thick hull armor plating dramatically increases the unit price for this design.
