Native algae and lichen form the staple Maskai diet and are now tank-grown for mass consumption.

Native Sophont: Maskai

An insectoid race. The thick, CO2 heavy atmosphere of this world has little effect on the Maskai; their unique exoskeletons apparently act as a check against the high atmospheric pressure. For excessive solar heating they use thin film technologies to give the exterior of their body solar power cells, or use heat reflective paint or coatings as required. It would appear that they see little or no reason for protective suits in most circumstances.

Maskaan is homeworld to a minor species of insect-like aliens.

This species has managed to carve out the Maskai Empire using massive sub-light hive colony ships and hordes of implacable female warrior caste.

Note that the planet's native name is not translatable; Humans have taken to referring to it as Maskaan, in favour of the IISS designation of 224-103.

World Starport

Maskaan has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
