The Cucuitt is a creature native to Ruie in the Spinward Marches.
- It has avianoid characteristics.
Description (Specifications)
A large and normally flightless bird native to Ruie and similar in some respects to the Terran ostrich. The cucuitt are known for a lack of natural predators and a tendency to lay eggs year round.
Physiology & Ecology
There are two distinct species of cucuitt: the Nebelthorn and the Canaday.
- The Neblethorn is smaller, standing 1.2 meters high on average, and is typically black in color. Some have enlarged heel spurs. The male tends to be aggressive and will attack humans and other creatures in the wild.
- The Canaday is larger, with an average height of around 2 meters and white coloration. Generally they are quite docile.
They are not suitable for riding, though people have tried.
Life Cycle & Reproduction
The cucuitt has a lifespan of approximately seven to eight years.
Each cucuitt starts its life by hatching from an egg. Young cucuitt grow and change over time, becoming adult cucuitt and having young of their own. The different stages of life that an animal passes through are called its life cycle. A cucuitt' life cycle begins even before it hatches whilst within the egg.
Diet & Trophics
Cucuitt consume anything they can catch. This usually consists small crawling insects and carrion. In periods of drought and or starvation they will eat their own eggs.
History & Background / Dossier
The cucuitt is frequently used by the population of Ruie for meat, eggs and leather. The meat has a pleasant mild flavor.
Travellers' Aid Society Advisory
The Travellers' Aid Society (TAS) classifies the cucuitt as non-threatening to most sophonts and makes no special advisory regarding this creature.
