The Cucuitt is a creature native to Ruie in the Spinward Marches.
- It has avianoid characteristics.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
A large creature native to Ruie and similar in some respects to the Terran ostrich -- it has many resemblances to Terran birds, though it is flightless. The cucuitt are known for a lack of natural predators, other than members of their own species, and a tendency to lay eggs throughout the year.
Physiology & Ecology[edit]
There are two distinct species of cucuitt: the Nebelthorn and the Canaday.
- The Neblethorn is smaller, standing 1.2 meters high on average, and is typically black in color. Some have enlarged heel spurs. The male tends to be aggressive and will attack humans and other creatures in the wild.
- The Canaday is larger, with an average height of around 2 meters and white coloration. Generally they are quite docile.
They are not suitable for riding, though people have tried.
Life Cycle & Reproduction[edit]
The cucuitt has a lifespan of approximately seven to eight years.
Each cucuitt starts its life by hatching from an egg.
Diet & Trophics[edit]
Cucuitt consume anything they can catch. This usually consists of small crawling insects and carrion. In periods of drought or starvation they will eat their own eggs.
History & Background / Dossier[edit]
The cucuitt is frequently used by the population of Ruie for meat, eggs and leather. The meat has a pleasant, mild flavor.
Travellers' Aid Society Advisory[edit]
The Travellers' Aid Society (TAS) classifies the cucuitt as non-threatening to most sophonts and makes no special advisory regarding this creature.
