A Waypoint in deep space (3038 Far Home), a point lying between the K’shek cluster and the Hak'tha Spread. It lies approximately 2 parsecs from the Sshkih (2837 Far Home), Tha'ki (3040 Far Home) and Saa Kaa (3239 Far Home) systems. The Sath call it Ith-Saa-Ka (loosely 'Gateway' or 'Portal').

The area of space covered by the Waypoint (3038 Far Home) will eventually hold three separate refuelling and supply depots, each positioned approximately 1 light-year apart and each one relatively closer to one of the three destination systems. As of 5600AD only one (SShkih Station) has been completed, with the remaining two still in the early stages of construction.

Any of the deep space Calibration Points constructed by the Sath.

Description / Specifications[edit]

The Sath have maintained Calibration Points in deep space since their earliest days of interstellar travel.

The Sath have the bad luck to be stuck in an astrographic dead-end, within an isolated cluster of stars on the verge of the Great Void. Calibration Points offered a means of breaking out of their pocket

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

Early History:[edit]

Sath were contacted by humans around 2320AD. They improved their technological base and by 2500AD had made their first independent interstellar jump.

The ongoing differences between humans and Sath restricted Sath access to commercially available jump-2 drives - human traders disliked the idea of selling such items to a species that had vowed to wipe them out. For the most part Sath were forced to rely on their own domestically produced jump-1 drives.

The Sath quickly spread throughout the K’shek cluster – their initial burst of expansion coincided with the self-imposed isolation of the Second Confederation, effectively giving the Sath a free hand in the area.

The Sath created two Calibration Points – Sch'ikaa Waypoint (2435 Far Home) and Tiik'sch Waypoint (2536 Far Home) – so that convential jump-1 vessels - with their greater internal capacity - could travel unhindered between the two clusters. The Sath operated long-range starships and x-range vessels as - the Sha’a Cluster, to coreward, was regularly visited by such craft and its systems had well established populations.

Both Waypoints remained in operation until they were destroyed by the Voyagers sometime after 3730AD.

Recent History:[edit]

Sath within the K’shek cluster rebuilt their technological base during the Renaissance and had restarted interstellar travel by the late 49th century. Their technology and infrastructure, however, was insufficient to allow jump-2 drives to be constructed. And humans remained extremely reluctant to provide any jump-2 drives, even for massively inflated prices. In order to facilitate trade and commerce between the two core regions of Sath territory the Sch'ikaa and Tiik'sch Waypoints were rebuilt. By 5100AD both were in regular service.

By around 5550AD the Sath technological base had advanced to the point where they were able to construct their own jump-2 drives. The Waypoints, functioning far beyond their projected lifetimes, had fallen into a perilous condition and were becoming increasingly obsolete. Folllowing the Kahiik Khi Incident in 5560AD both Waypoints were decomissioned. They were broken up to recover their raw materials during the 5580s.

The Sath are currently in the process of constructing a new Calibration Point, located within deep space at (3038 Far Home), to give conventional jump-2 vessels access to the systems of the Hak'tha Spread. It is incomplete but is operational.
