The Orowani Deep Space Fuel Cache, or ODSFC, located within interstellar hex (1937 Halcyon) within the Great Void. A deep-space Calibration Point that was constructed to allow access to the remote Sarunt system (1939 Halcyon), the homeworld of the Treehangers. The species are reclusive and reluctant to trade, and the majority of ships passing through the ODSFC are research vessels from the University of Selasia.

Description / Specifications[edit]

The vessels are permanently tethered together at the center of a sphere of locator beacons. Each beacon is located approximately 2500AU from the ODSFC and contains communications equipment and emergency supplies. They are poorly maintained and breakdowns are common.

All of the vessels used to create the ODSFC were at the end of their working lives when they were purchased. Each was prepared (primarily through making repairs and removing superfluous equipment, plus the addition of powerful communications and sensor suites) and then jumped to interstellar hex (1937 Halcyon). Since then much of their internal heavy equipment has been stripped out, while their internal drive tankage has been added to the cache's overall fuel holding capacity. None of the vessels are in good condition and entire sections are sealed off, unable to retain an internal atmosphere.

The ODSFC has a large compliment of small craft of different types and a dedicated 100 dTon Orowani Deep Space Courier. A small Security unit is stationed aboard the Cache, though their duties typically involve repairs and maintenance rather than patrols and policing.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

The ODSFC project was begun in 5560AD by a speculative business partnership based on Nexus (1526 Halcyon) seeking to open a new Star Lane connecting the isolated high population world of Sarunt (1939 Halcyon) with Distant Fringe proper. The component vessels had been purchased, prepared and positioned by the beginning of 5564AD. The ODSFC was operational by the beginning of 5565AD.

Sarunt is the homeworld of a sophont species, the Treehangers. Despite the rich potential that trading with the Treehangers appeared to offer, that race have proven reluctant to initiate contact with human merchants and are largely uninterested in human goods and commodities.

The ODSFC is a failing venture. The project ran into financial difficulties almost immediately after its incorporation and the various worlds along the proposed route of the new Star Lane remain undeveloped backwaters. The ODSFC sees very little traffic and is barely able to meet its own staffing bills, let alone pay for repairs and upgrades. It only remains operational through grants from the University of Selasia.

Accurate, up-to-date navigation data for the ODSFC is widely available. Travellers (and the revenue they generate) are welcomed.
