Negril is a poor, nonindustrial world.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- This world has few prospects for economic development.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Raidermarch Subsector of Crucis Margin Sector.
- The world has a large population of Chirpers.

System Data
The highport was originally a 4,000t freighter that brought the initial camp to Negril and then had its drives removed once in a stable orbit. Fuel, accommodations are all available although Station Keeper Festanitri will charge high prices for both. As for cargo opportunities, there is little here but desperate adventurers may be able to sell goods here and take data off station. The station also boasts two shuttles which ferry goods to and from the planet and for a small fee, passengers may be taken.

Negril is an extremely rocky planet but with almost nothing by way of metals or even rare earths. The thin atmosphere makes life difficult in all but the deep canyons that what little water the planet has managed to erode in great number. In these canyons, vegetation grows and a small biosphere has evolved. It is in these canyons that the Chirpers have made their home. The air pressure is thin but breathable by Humans and most other species and the vegetation can even grow quite thick in some areas.
Mainworld Geography & Topography
The world is a single mono-continent dotted with un-numbered small lakes and several small seas. The planet has a fantastically complex weather system and bodies of water are known to change very rapidly under the right conditions.

Native Lifeforms
The planet's biosphere has not yet been adequately studied. It has the presence of many kinds of lifeforms, although their complexity is not well studied.
History & Background (Dossier)
The Negril system was initially surveyed in -393 and nothing of any great interest was found beyond a dry, rocky planet with a thin atmosphere. No resources of any great merit were detected so there was little interest in the planet.
Another survey in 810 from the now well populated world of Okaya was more extensive and discovered a large Chirper colony in one of the deep canyons. Interest in the Chirpers was immediate as not much was known of this species at the time. However, early researches managed to startle the creatures badly on their first contact and they left the planet within a year.
In 895, the Altard University of Life Sciences petitioned the government of Okaya to set up their own study group. This well funded group set up a small highport of reasonable quality as well as a landing field and research camp 35 kilometers from the canyon where the Chirpers were originally observed. They have been rewarded with excellent data and now have knowledge of many other Chirper groups in the area. Scientists of this group are regarded as the most knowledgeable of Chirpers in the sector although they admit that there are several mysteries about the species that still elude them – such as how the Chirpers came to be on this planet.
