Sepelin is a nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.

  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Esser Subsector of Divide Sector.

Malpiri-Sepelin System

The primary is Malpiri, an ordinary white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 4.42 Sols, a mass of 1.38 Sols, and a diameter of 2.031 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a very thin atmosphere inner world, (III) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (IV) a dense stony planetoid belt. (V) Sepelin orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VI) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world forms the outer system.

Mainworld Data

(V) Sepelin

(V) Sepelin is designated the mainworld. It orbits Malpiri at a mean distance of 1.32 AU (197.5 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 1 year 106 days and a rotation period of 27 hours. The axial tilt is 16 degrees. Sepelin has a diameter of 14,929 km, a density of 5.62 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.19 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 2.09 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen, 22% oxygen, 1% argon, and 1% water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by the high percentage of argon gas. Approximately 99.4% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 1.2m. Mean surface temperature: 4°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Satellite

Sepelin retains a single natural satellite, a trace atmosphere ice capped worldlet named Spandau:

(Va) Spandau (UWP Y311000-0, orbiting at 10 Diameters/150,000 km)

Mainworld geography and topography

Total surface area: 701 million km², Water surface area: 697 million km², Land surface area: 4 million km².

Native lifeforms

Sepelin has extensive, abundant native life, with organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Sepelin has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Sepelin possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government

Sepelin is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
