Ducad is a poor, non-agricultural and nonindustrial world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It has few prospects for economic development. Life here is drastically bleak.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Loran Subsector of Halcyon Sector.
Astrography and Planetology
The Ducad system is a part of the Nist Cluster.
System data
The Ducad system consists of two binary star systems lying around 2500 AU apart, orbiting their barycenter once every 179,000 years. From an astrographical perspective the Salvator-Claster binary pair lies to coreward and the Herzog-Lushan binary pair lies to rimward.
Salvator-Ducad System
The primary is Salvator, an ordinary red main sequence star with a luminosity of 0.04 Sols, a mass of 0.489 Sols, and a diameter of 764,000 km. (I) Ducad orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II) a small gas giant, (III) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (IV) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, and (V) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. All of the world retain satellites.
Claster Subsystem
The companion is Claster, a red subdwarf star that orbits Salvator at 81 AU (12.1 billion km) and has an orbital period of 1042 years. It has a luminosity of 0.0182 Sols, a mass of 0.144 Sols, and a diameter of 314,000 km. (I) a vacuum iceworld, (II) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (III) an exotic atmosphere radworld, and (IV) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. The radworld retains a family of satellites.
Herzog-Lushan Subsystem
The far companion is Herzog, an ordinary red main sequence star located approximately 2500 AU from Salvator: the pair orbit one another once every 179,000 years. Herzog has a luminosity of 0.0334 Sols, a mass of 0.4574 Sols, and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I) a large gas giant orbits in the habitable zone: it retains two relatively hospitable satellites. (II) a small gas giant, (III) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (IV) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Both gas giants retain families of satellites.
Lushan Secondary Subsystem
The distant companion is Lushan, a magenta coloured L-type brown dwarf with a diameter of 60,000 km. It orbits Herzog at a distance of 20.1 AU (3.157 billion km) and has an orbital period of 133 years. (I) a dense icy planetoid belt, and (II, III) two vacuum worldlets form the outer system. Neither world retains satellites.
(I) Ducad
(I) Ducad is designated the mainworld and orbits Salvator at a mean distance of 0.18 AU (26.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 39 days 21 hours: it is tidally locked to Salvator. The axial tilt is 3.5 degrees. Ducad has a diameter of 6,048 km, a density of 3.94 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.34 G. The world is flexed by tidal forces and is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.23 bar and a composition of 76% nitrogen, 23% oxygen, and 1% argon, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. Approximately 26% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5m. Mean surface temperature in twilight zone: -12°C. The atmosphere is sluggish and minor weather systems, driven by the star, crawl across the globe. The climate is static and influenced by geographical features.
Mainworld geography and topography
Total surface area: 115 million km², Land surface area: 123 million km², Water surface area: 30 million km².
Native lifeforms
Ducad has extensive though primitive native life, principally consisting of huge mats of photosynthetic flora. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Ducad has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Ducad possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
World government
Ducad is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
