Apge is an industrial, high-population hellworld with a billion or more sophonts, who struggle in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often develop intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Apge Subsector of Core Sector in the Domain of Sylea.
- This world has an Imperial Way Station.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)
This world is part of the namesake Apge Run, a significant main.
Stellar Data
System Data
Apart from Apge, the only other world to be populated in the system is Badestone, the third planet. The world is governed by the Apge Frontier Development Office, a private corporation owned by Apge Port Authority and the Exortom Corporation.
- The mainworld
- x8 secondary rocky worlds, including Tronda, Badestone, Gromet, and five others.
- x1 Planetoid Belt. Named the Pukushkilaam Belt, and at one point the Cronia Belt, it lies in the outer system. [2]
Mainworld Data
Apge (Core 0402) is a world 11,184 kilometers in diameter, with eighty percent of its surface area covered by land. In addition to the lack of water, Apge suffers from an atmosphere that is slightly tainted with sulfur.
- Apge is tidally locked to its primary, Aseladar. [2]
Mainworld Geography & Topography
Because of the lack of water, residents tend to live grouped together in densely packed settlements around one of the six major waterways.
Native Lifeforms
Due to the high gravity, animal life (all of it small) tends toward short legs with exoskeleton frames, while the plants are of spreading and not rising varieties. The animal life is inedible to Humans, and in turn poses no threat.
The plant Amealia's Fire uses the heavy metals in the soil to colour its leaves, making the plant a source of a rare natural dye.
History & Background (Dossier)
A high-population, industrialized hell-world located in the Apge Subsector of the Core Sector.
At one time an important world of the First Imperium, Apge has experienced a tumultuous history. Becoming an important stopover on the long route between Vland and Kaggushus during the Rule of Man, during the subsequent Long Night, Apge reverted to its Vilani roots, adapting a more conservative culture. A resurrected Vilani nobility returned to the practice of appointing the third-born child of the family as heir. This practice propagated to other tiers of society and resulted in a massive population boom. During the Long Night, migration wasn't an option, and so management of food production and processing became of utmost importance. Billions of people live in all regions of the planet, as well as numerous orbital and Lagrange point artificial habitats.
Apge has long been a stronghold of the Derushangar. In spite of nearly 1,000 years of separation, the Apgean and Mishaari branches of Derushangar were reunited centuries before the advent of the Third Imperium. Early trade missions in approximately -500 allowed the two factions to rekindle their association. Despite their inevitable differences, they began the process of jointly rebuilding their organisation.
The Apge Consortium, a small pocket empire centered on Apge, was founded in the last years of the Long Night. The Consortium was soon absorbed into the Third Imperium.
In modern times, Duchess Azabaka Ashushashmi has promoted the "Apge Bureau of Life, Environment and Resources", putting immense pressure on ABLER to spread the word about how wonderful the Apge Cluster is and how it is brimming with economic potential. Despite their catchy acronym, ABLER is in fact a traditionalist-style Vilani bureau, and so more conservative by far than the duchess would prefer.
Imperial High (Landed) Nobility
Apge, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdoms of two members of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.
- It holds the estate of an Imperial knight, the Imperial representative to the world.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial count.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial subsector duke, who also conducts affairs regarding the entire subsector at the Interstellar and Imperial level.
World Starport (St)
Apge has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)
Apge has a population of 70,000,000,000 sophonts (tens of billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
Linguistic Topography
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Core Anglic, one of the principal dialects of one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
Vilani is the language of choice when not engaging with offworlders.
Urbanization
- Vilani cities are planned under the assumption that most transport traffic will be communal rather than private. Typically, only high-ranking manager or executive-class citizens will own their own ground cars or air/rafts.
- Vilani buildings are almost always square or rectangular, which means that when combined with a city's radial layout, there are innumerable triangular bits of land left over. This is deliberate; the leftover space is used for parks and other public facilities.
- One of the few outstanding features of Vilani architecture is its emphasis on ease of communication. Vilani buildings are specially designed with group interaction in mind. Meeting rooms form an integral part of every building.
World Technology Level
World Government
Apge is a member of the Imperium, and serves as the Subsector capital.
- Imperial Scouts have classified this world has having a Feudal Technocracy which isn't strictly true. However, it is as close as one can get to the truth when attempting to pigeonhole this planet's strange government.
- There is an elite council of six directors, one from each of the six largest corporations (decided upon examination of shares very five years). The Apge Port Authority always has a director on the Elite Council and is seen by many as the "inner power".
- In the early decades of the Third Imperium, the leader of the world's main civilization was selected in a unique manner. Their law stated that the one who could psionically remove the Scepter of Power from its cavern would be ruler for life. The scepter was actually an Ancient device, and the cavern was protected by a security system of Ancient origins. Some unseen force immediately killed any living creature entering the cavern.
- In addition to the cavern and the scepter, the seat of government also had what appeared to be a universal duplicator. They could take any non-living item that was smaller than a meter cubed, put it into the machine, and it would be duplicated perfectly. This process took between six and thirty-six weeks. The natives tended to pray over the device during that time, asking their god to perform the "miracle". The machine also absorbed a large quantity of raw material from the landscape.
World Military
The system hosts an IISS X-boat way station.
World Law
Individuals are largely left to take care of themselves. Firearms are, however, strictly controlled and only citizens can apply for a rare gun permit.
The legal system is enforced by a private firm which patrols areas which have paid their insurance. All but the poorest citizens pay.
World Economy
The main industries are mining and the starport. The mines are located in the heart of upland deserts where robots assist miners in enclosed vehicles to strip-mine heavy metals.

World Demographics

World Culture
Due to their placid lifestyle and the abundance of easily obtainable food and raw materials, the people of Apge are generally peaceful; conflict is very uncommon among the peoples of the main society. There are, however, occasional conflicts with the anarchists who dwell in the wastelands.
