Ghothu is a rich and agricultural production world with a shirt-sleeve atmosphere and a balance of available surface water. The system supports a population in the millions of sophonts, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Julian Protectorate in the Flange Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Hegemony of Lorean. 100% of the world's population is the Major Race Vargr. Less than 10% of the world's population is the Minor Race Bwap.
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
This world is part of the Managa Cluster.
Stellar Data[edit]
History and Background[edit]
A rather isolated world, Ghothu's original population was wiped out -- both Human and Suedzuk Vargr -- in a worldwide thermonuclear/bioplague war. Recently, it has been repopulated by both the Human and Suedzuk Vargr population of Flange/Flange (Empty Quarter 2009), as a reward to the sort-of-loyal Flange population by the Hegemony of Lorean (which rarely allows most Suedzuk to even leave their homeworlds, never mind settle new worlds). The new settlers are busy working to plant towns, piece together the tragic story of the dead cultures, and neutralize what remains of the plagues and the radioactivity. The new starport was an occasion for celebration, returning the world to the interstellar community, but the more difficult task of healing the wounded ecosystems still remains.
World Starport[edit]
Ghothu has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are the most commonly used here:
- Julian Anglic: A common variant of Anglic in the sector, and an official language of the Julian Protectorate.
- Arzulan: A series of largely related languages granted state recognition by the Lorean Hegemony.
- Various other, local languages may be heard on Lorean worlds, but have no government support.
- Tenirruet: A widespread Irilitok trade language within the Hegemony of Lorean.
- Suedzuk: The varied languages of the often paranoid Suedzuk Vargr.
- Evrgoer: The most common Suedzuk dialect within modern Lorean space.
- Wawa-pakekeke-wawa: The precise and bureaucratic common language of the Bwaps.
World Timeline[edit]
These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this world and the surrounding region:
- 814: The Third Imperium and the Arzula authorities forge a trading agreement, leading to the creation of the Deep Space Stations of the Saeghvung-Turley-Exile Run, crossing the Lesser Rift in Empty Quarter Sector.
- 822-835: Much of Arzul Sector is conquered by the Arzula.
- 864: The modern Hegemony of Lorean is founded, starting out as a 'trade and aid' group of interstellar traders centred on a cluster of high-population systems dominating Mycocona Subsector.
- The great success of this trade coalition leads to a sharp rise of economic and then military power.
- 869-870: The repressive methods of the Hegemony, and the refusal of local resistance to buckle, leads to the Era of Horror in parts of coreward Empty Quarter Sector, as the Hegemony responds with undue cruelty against its enemies.
- 872: The worlds of Kotsfa Subsector secede from the Hegemony, defying efforts to stop them.
- Further disintegration is only prevented with the suicide of the Hegemon and radical economic reforms introduced by his successor.
- 933-936: The defection of the Damlaer Union from the Julian Protectorate to the Hegemony leads to the Lorean Strikes. Failed military action leads to a major political crisis within the Protectorate.
- 940: As part of this political upheaval, the government of the Ikonaz Sphere collapses, replaced by the Rukadukaz Republic.
- 942: The Protectorate and the Hegemony formally sign the Treaty of Var-Inaka (restricting naval basing) and the Julian Concord, incorporating the Hegemony into the Julian Protectorate.
