Description (Specifications)[edit]

Valiant class VTOL Recon Scout Plane (TECH LEVEL 10) used by a mercenary Condotterie company called Pam's Peacekeepers: The vehicle has a crew of 1, a pilot in an armored complex cockpit, with simple controls in a simple VTOL airframe. It can carry a single 250kg cluster bomb on a ventral hardpoint. It carries a stabilized laser rifle and two 29.3kg capacity launch rails for homing TAC missiles for air to air or air to ground targets.

Equipment: map box with GPS, basic ECM, the pilot has on-demand thermal vision integral to their flight helmet, 40 power target acquisition RADAR, and a 1,000 power radio.
Power: The simple airframe mounts 0.014705882MW basic turboprop engines producing 0.294117647 tons of thrust and consuming 0.088235292 liters of fuel per hour, internal fuel capacity 604.63529 liters, enough for 6,852.5 hours or 285 days. Thrust to weight produce 0.25G's loaded. Range: loaded 1,541,820km on internal fuel.
Weapons:
There is a stabilized air-cooled laser rifle in a ventral targeting pod under the nose. This laser can be used for target designating the cluster bomb. It can engage a single target, and has a battery for 100 shots. Its direct fire characteristics are:

There is a 250kg bomb hardpoint under the fuselage. The typical load is (1) 250kg laser guided iron bomb with 30cm CBM warheads 21/9 +12DM. They cost Cr 2,850 each and one is included in the plane's price.
There are two wing tip 29.3kg capacity TAC missile launch rails. There is no on-board guidance provided. The missiles have a homing guidance package. They mount 18cm HEAP 50 warheads, ill suited for the air-to-air role, but ideal for anti-tank work. The missiles cost Cr350.8 each and have a 17km range. Two missiles are included in the price.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

These are essentially the same planes as the C-47 Gooney Bird class Light VTOL Scout Planes with a different payload package and mission profile. An initial order of four custom proto-type Valiant class VTOL Recon Scout Planes planes was made. Pam felt she needed a tiny recon drones. These were unavailable and she was forced to use small manned platforms. Their primary function is to find targets with their 40km range RADAR. They first saw combat in her inaugural mercenary ticket for use on Aramanx/Aramis (Spinward Marches 3005). Rumor is she plans to acquire another as soon as finances permit. These were designed for a mercenary Dream Ticket, to be built with money provided upfront by Sternmetal Horizons an interested megacorporation. The total unit budget was MCr30. They are envisioned to be barebones, the minimum plane at the lowest price. It has an advantage of its VTOL maneuverability to elude more conventional interceptors sent against it. The basic ECM makes it a little more difficult to target with native RADAR, with their avionics package they can fly in a low profile nape of earth attack mode. Skilled forward observers are required to coordinate these planes for close air support.
